shoulder exercises

shoulder exercises are recommended for patients having shoulder pain and decreased shoulder range of movement. patients with rotator cuff injury, shoulder joint arthritis, frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement syndrome etc are prescribed shoulder pendulum exercises.
1: clasp the fingers of both hands together, straighten the elbows and lift both hands above the head 10 times
2: clasp the fingers of both hands together, extend both elbows joints and move the clasped fingers to the right and left side just like you are rocking a baby to sleep 10 times
3: straighten the shoulder and elbow joints and draw a circle clockwise 10 times and anti clockwise 10 times
4: place the affected upper limb finger on the wall in front of you and climb the wall with your fingers and return back to the starting point. try to climb the wall higher each day with your fingers
5: swing the affected shoulder sideways 10 times.
6: swing the affected shoulder diagonally

exercises for shoulder pain

simple exercises that can be done to decrease shoulder pain
1: shoulder flexion and extension exercises
2: shoulder abduction and adduction exercises
3: shrugging shoulder forward and backward similar to shoulder movement when rowing a boat
4: drawing a circle with the hand in a clockwise direction and then after in anticlockwise direction
5: swing the upper limb forward and backward in standing position or sitting position

physiotherapy treatment goals following stroke

stroke or cerebrovascular accident will lead to paralysis of one side of the body. it will lead to either right upper and lower limb being unable to move or either left upper and lower limb being unable to move. there are cases where it affects only one limb of the body. once patient is medically stable, physiotherapy can start for the patient. the goals will be prevent pressure sore by turning the patient is bed over 2 hours in conjunction with the nurses. physiotherapy will also aim at preventing neglect of the affected side of the body by getting patient to be attended to through that side. passive movement to the affected upper and lower limb joints will be done. forward reach exercises in sitting will be done to improve patient sitting balance. patient will be progressed to standing within parallel bar or rotastand of molift and progress to standing with wheeled zimmer frame. walking within parallel bar will be done and patient will be progress to walking with tripod or quad stick

correct sitting position

Sitting incorrectly can cause back pain. the ideal sitting position should allow 90degree hip flexion and 90degree knee flexion with the feet placed in neutral position on the floor. the back rest of the chair shoulder get up to the shoulder level. this position will bring optimal support to the body and decrease the body muscles tensing up to keep the body in sitting position.
